Human rights panel

The Haryana Government on Wednesday categorically told the High Court that it had no intention of setting up a human rights commission for the state.

This stand was conveyed by counsel for the government during resumed hearing of a bunch of PILs seeking directions to the respondents, including the Haryana Government, to set up a human rights commission for the state.

Among others, petitions have been filed by the Peoples Union for Civil Liberties (PUCL), Panchkula, through its president, Mr Ujjal Singh Sahni, Mr Naresh Kumar Kadyan and Mr H.C. Arora.

The Bench comprising Chief Justice Mr Justice D.K. Jain and Mr Justice Surya Kant later adjourned the matter to April 5 for final arguments.
